How To Receive Deliverance

The greatest mistake that deliverance ministers make is attempting to rid individuals of demons without first undoing the damaging words spoken over them and helping them transform their mindset. True freedom is attained through a deliberate change in your thought patterns, and that requires knowledge. So much of what you do and how you feel stems from your internal state. Authentic believers who have been born again can still suffer because of a lack of knowledge, and it is crucial for us to be aware of this.

But through knowledge shall the just be delivered. Proverbs 11:9 (KJV)

A hypocrite with his mouth destroys his neighbor: but through knowledge shall the just be delivered. Proverbs 11:9 (KJV)

My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children. Hosea 4:6 (KJV)

When you read these verses carefully, you can see that knowledge has the power to deliver. On the flip side, a lack of knowledge can destroy. It doesn’t say they’re destroyed because they're not gifted, anointed, or talented, but they're destroyed because they lack knowledge.

Ignorance is the platform the devil uses to destroy; knowledge is power.

John 14:30 says, "Hereafter I will not talk much with you: for the prince of this world cometh but I am glad, he hath nothing of him in me” (KJV).

Acquire more knowledge, study the word of God, meditate on it day and night, and refuse to be ignorant of the knowledge of God and our LORD Jesus Christ.

Attempting to exorcise or remove a demon without first addressing the root cause or understanding what attracted the demon to stay in that person is an act of spiritual robbery. Dealing with spirits requires consideration of legal matters. This is why people need prophetic deliverance.

Prophetic deliverance involves identifying the source of the problem before resolving it. No spirit visits a person randomly; there is always a reason for its presence. Therefore, understanding why a particular spirit is there is essential before exercising the act of removing it. A good example of this is found in the life of Elisha. When he came to the city of Jericho, before he would heal the water, he first asked about the source and the root of the water. Only after acquiring this knowledge could he deal with the situation at its source. Take a look at this Biblical passage:

And when they came again to him, (for he tarried at Jericho,) he said unto them, “Did I not say unto you, Go not?” And the men of the city said unto Elisha, “Behold, I pray thee, the situation of this city is pleasant, as my lord seeth: but the water is naught, and the ground barren.”

And he said, “Bring me a new cruse, and put salt therein.” And they brought it to him. And he went forth unto the spring of the waters, and cast the salt in there, and said, “Thus saith the LORD, I have healed these waters; there shall not be from thence any more death or barren land.”

So the waters were healed unto this day, according to the saying of Elisha which he spake. 2 Kings 2:18-22 (KJV)

Every situation has a source. The source is where everything started or what brought it into being. Prophetic deliverance is about identifying the source of the situation–what brought something into being.

Now that we comprehend what deliverance is, and what is required, I pray that the LORD visits your source, and delivers you and your entire household in Jesus' name.

  • LORD, I refuse to be ignorant; teach me your ways and help me to know you more.
